TATE BRITAIN’S GREAT ART WALKS - SERIES 1
6 x 60 min for Sky Arts
Tate Britain’s Great British Walksis a new series of epic travelogues through British art. Presenter Gus Casley-Hayford, cultural historian and unabashed art fanatic, takes you on a journey into the scenes of some of the UK’s most loved landscape paintings in the company of some of our nation’s favourite personalities - Danny Baker, Simon Callow, Richard E Grant, Cerys Matthews, Miriam Margolyes and Michael Sheen. Together, they follow in the artists’ very footsteps to discover their breath-taking views, incredible inspirations, and fascinating life stories.
Each journey is inspired by the guests’ personality, history or taste, chosen from Tate Britain’s national collection, and sets off from the gallery to the setting of that iconic image. Exploring works by William Hogarth, John Constable, JMW Turner, Alfred Wallis, William Powell Frith and Josef Herman takes them to the lush green countryside, gritty urban cityscapes and wild romantic coasts that seduced these great artists.
Walking the landscapes they loved, Gus and his guest see Britain from a new perspective – through the eyes of our most loved artists. Along the way they discover not only the stories behind their chosen paintings, but also local characters and celebrated contemporary artists who are still inspired by the great British painters of the past.
So sit back and enjoy the walk. Or better still why not follow in our footsteps!
